Shaggy – Good advice below – especially regarding the cables. Make sure the cables are adequately sized (AWG #1 minimum), are as short as possible, and that the terminals are in good shape and soldered – not just crimped. (Often crimped terminals look good from the outside but are actually making contact on only a few strands of the cable inside.) Another item to check: The starter switch. As the switch is used it’s copper contact faces wear/burn away causing it’s resistance to increase. Try cranking the engine for 10 seconds or so then immediately feel around the switch. If it is any warmer than the surrounding components it should be replaced. Hugh’s advice to run the battery ground cable to a tranny cover bolt is good. I like to take it one step further: Attach the ground cable under one of the starter mounting bolts. With a good battery, cables and starter your SA should tip over smartly on 6 volts! ...Bob
