I once recharged an F4 magnet using a block of cast iron about 40 lbs.as the keeper. After recharging I put the block on a scale and watched the scale as I lifted the block by the magnet. The scale was reading about 15lbs when the magnet broke free so I took it to be 25lbs. pull. I put the magnet back on the block and tried again and only got 15lbs. pull. I guess this is why you should slide the keeper off the magnet and not pull it straight off after charging. Probably about 6 years ago I posted instuctions for winding wire around the magnet and using a battery to energize it but I can't find it in the archives.I think I still have the sketch I made to show how to wind the wire to get the correct polarity, I could e-mail that to you.Ed
