In reply to your hydraulic question, did you replace the hydraulic fluid yet? You might be surprised how much that will help your pump and the whine. Lots of old tractors with motor oil (or worse gear oil) in the resorvior along with some water and other crud.

On a 300 row crop the drain and filter (screen) is on the right side of the tractor below the touch controls, should be in the same place on a utility. If I'm wrong somebody will correct me in a few moments.
