Lindsay 1: The reason your #2 and #3 are in rough shape is water leaking down your muffler. It tears apart the valvues and #2 and #3 cylinders. We've all been there! 2: If you are getting knock, that sounds like bearings. However check your oil pressure. If its good you may not have to open the engine. Sleeves and pistons can be done with the engine in place. But when you undo your connecting rods, mark the bearings carefully, so they go back in the same. 3: I have always used a machine shop to check the head and do the valve seating. As far as manuals go, there should be a lot of them out there. I got mine 35 years ago form the IH dealer.Perhaps others can help you there. If everything else is in good shape its well worth doing. I have rebuilt mine twice in its 60 yars of history. I use it almost every day. There's a photo of it in the gallery.
