Farmall Tractors - Offset

I have a friend that owns a Farmall Cub, Cub Low-boy, and a Super C. I have wondered for some time why Farmall/IH made the offset of the tractor to the left side - and the seat to the right, making all the controls operational by the left hand. It just seems more natural to me that the offset would have been opposite so that the right hand could be used to operate the controls. There must have been a reason. Anyone care to comment?
