SOmetimes they work that way... sometimes they don"t. With a 3-brush generator you can sometimes hop up the voltage a bit. For what it is worth, I"ve always thought that an alternator installation was cleaner than a generator installation. No need for an external regulator and no need to worry about the battery being overcharged or undercharged. And for those who are running a magneto, the installation is even easier. No need to a diode or indicator lamp. (Not that a lamp is a bad idea). Just hook the exciter wire up to a normally open switch and you"re in business.
