6 volts to 12

Put a 12 volt battery in my H this summer and left the oringinal 6 volt generator hookup the same.It charges the 12 volt battery good. The 6 volt generator puts out about 14 volts at 8 amps at haft throdle.WHY go to all the work to change over to a alterator??? Yes I did change light bulbs and it has a mag. Also my generator has the one relay cutout, and I guess it could overcharge the battery if used at high charge after many hours of use a day. Correct me if im overlooking something. thanks
