It really depends on what kind of shape the engine is in. If it's just getting kind of tired, you can do it for under $1000. I overhauled a 263 two years ago that needed quite a bit of machining, and still got it done for $1200. Make sure to replace the wrist pins/bushings. Those are the weak spots in that engine. Have the valves ground, and only run Case-IH Low-Ash oil, or you will be giving it another valve job before you know it.
