I've never worked on a 400 Diesel. Most of my tractor experience comes from 70-100 horsepower IH's. Really, the flywheel shouldn't be that bad. Remove two flywheel to crankshaft bolts that are across from eachother and replace them with alingment dowels, made by taking two bolts that are about three inches longer, and cutting the heads off. Now remove the remaining bolts. The two alingment dowels you just made will support the flywheel while you get a good grip on it, and you'll be able to get an idea of what it weighs as you slide it off. This method also makes it about 100 times easier to install the flywheel, too. If the rear main dosen't look like it's leaking, I would leave it alone. However, since you are replacing the TA, you should also replace the main clutch. Whenever you replace the clutch, it is an extremely good idea to have the flywheel surfaced by a machine shop.
