Hi D.R.H. So far, we've been 100% happy with the trade. The 686 was a very nice tractor for cleaning barn, cutting hay, raking, baling, and hauling chopper boxes. The main reason we traded was because we switched from a 4-row 38" planter to a 6-row 30" planter. Our 786 was the main tractor at the time, so I didn't want to narrow it up for 30" rows. The 686 was already set for 30" rows, but the 6-row planter had the 1000 RPM pump, and the 686 only has a 540 RPM PTO. Then this beautiful 3088 with 1700 hrs. shows up at a local dealer. So, traded the 686 for it, narrow up the 786, and make the 3088 the main tractor. Three areas where the 786/3088 really beat the 686. 1- The 686 had the hardest-starting D-310 I've ever been around. The 786 and 3088 both have 358's, which will start 10 times better. 2- the brakes. 686 has the old mechanical style, not what you want going down the road with a chopper box. 3- the PTO. With a 686, you don't even have the option of 1000 RPM.
