Someting does'nt sound right.If you move trip lever to gas side then turn switch off to mag. or coil with throttle lever off engine should die.
May be sticking foot in mouth here,but I don't
think engine would have enough compression to run on gas side even if diesel is still getting to cylinders if linkage is holding starting valves open.
