There are a few things that can happen pending on the problem. Most of the time the low side is what goes, meaning it slips intermitently, all the time, or won't even move the tractor. The high side is the one that will usually work all the time but I've seen this side go bad a couple times. There are clutch plates that burn up, sprags that wear out, even clutch plates that have slipped and welded themselves together. Most of these problems come from operator error. Using the TA for down shifting with a load behind for example will take out a TA pretty fast. TA control lever needs to be adjusted properly, having the dump valve adjusted in relation to the clutch helps to prevent some failiors to the torque. This is a hyd. TA that I'm refering to, maybe somebody can explain the mechanical TA to you because thats a little different system. I have to go now, hope this sheds some light on it for you.
