Without being there and hearing it, its hard to say what it could be. Hyd noise is possible but gear noise is most likely if its as loud and annoying as you say it is. I've run across one time on a 1086 TA job the pto driven gear was bad and I didn't catch it right away. When I fired it up it made a loud howling noise. The new pto drive gear didn't mesh right with the old driven gear. The teeth on the driven gear had a crown on one side like it should and a ski slope wear on the other side.
So if you take the MCV off to change the gasket to the thicker one take a GOOD look at that gear, it also drives the MCV pump. Also I've always put the thicker gasket in anyway. Good luck!
