I'm not an expert on such things, but I've seen
wire in the water cavity of heads before. I've
always understood it to be leftover from the
casting process, perhaps to hold a
complicated core together. That core that
formed that cavity would have to be held in
place by something. Maybe someone who's
worked with sand castings can shed some
light.....
I seem to remember that the wires in the head
were still stuck in the iron on one end.
