Yeah Jeffcat, bet those old saws can be fun. Do you by any chance have a McCullogh 5-49 or 7-55? When I was growing up that's what was used on our farm, my uncle and I cut a lot of hardwood timber with them....seems like he was sharpening chains every night with his Dumore grinder in the basement after milking and supper. We had a sawmill too, kept the house warm with slabwood in the furnace and edgings and split slabs in the cookstove. Those old 2 man saws could cut a lot of timber, but they wore you out like the crosscut because you tried to cut so much. We cut trees all over the area for logs to make rough lumber for neighboring farmers. We skidded the logs out and hauled them to our mill, sawed them to the desired spec's, then hauled the cut lumber back. All this was done with a W6 and an H with a No. 31 IH loader and heavy duty built farm wagons. We powered the sawmill with a 30-60 Rumely S Oil Pull. It was a pretty exciting place to grow up.
