While the pan"s off, you ought to take one of your main bearing caps off & look at those too. I was into my early "48 SA last month, and found the original mains stamped "Std. 8-47" They were standard size. The journals looked good, and I couldn"t eyeball or feel any slop, so I put new Std. inserts back in. The originals had very little if any wear. Carrying good oil pressure so close enough I guess. My rod bearings were std"s also with very little wear, & replaced with same. Runs smooth & quiet.
