Bill: My dad had a policy of welding 1" right across cross bar, and the back end 3 to 4 feet of the swinging draw bar. Basically doubling the thickness of both. That happened usually new before they went to the field. That was very common practice amoung farmers using two wheeled trailer with a lot of tongue weight.
