I assume you also have the nuts off of the head bolts...next try a tapping a large flat screw driver into the old head gasket as you won't be reusing that gasket. Try it in several places but be careful in placing the tip of the screw driver exactly into the gasket and not the block or the head. It's better to raise up on the screw driver to break the seal than to push down on it. I'd go for an area about 2" from a corner of the head to start with.
