Brooks,normally when a tractor like yours is converted to twelve volts there is a resistor installed 12 volt to 6 volt ahead of the coil Thus keeping the ignition system original.This was still used on the 46o-560 series. Check an see if you have this resistor, Most of them were mounted close to the coil.Also on the 460 and 560 there was an additional contact on the starter solenoid to provide 12 volts to the coil while the starter was being used the switched back to to the resister when the starter button was realeased,You can run 12 volts to the coil but the points will be very short lived, The factory resistor was white ceramic about 2.5 in long.
