Here we go- Hugh's got most of it, I'll just complete some more. IH did some name surveys right around the end of the war to see what names people actually identified the tractors with. Of course, International and Farmall were the big winners. McCOrmick and Deering were low on the list. What happens next is a bit of a mystery. Probably becuase of the anti-trust suit and the need to differentiate the industrial and ag lines, IH decided to eliminate the Deering to simplify the names. The reason why McCormick was kept was probably simple- Fowler McCormick was running the company. The priginal decision was made in 46 or so, the tractor decal decision in 49. Obviously, existing stocks of decals were used up first, so the actual dates were going to be variable-slow moving lines could take awhile. The McCormick lasted pretty much up to 1967 from what I understand.
