We used to mow hay with a six foot Brillion rotary mower. In alfalfa about 2 feet tall I could run easily in 3rd gear with the Super H, about 5 MPH.... and get about three acres per hour cut. In grass a foot tall I could have run 4th gear, about 6-1/2 mph, and cut four to 4-1/2 acres/hour but the cutting job would have been no where near as nice. I think the 300 is plenty big. Depending on the steepness of the terrain I'd even consider a 7 or 8 ft cutter. 300 has plenty of slow gears, and the cutters do a much better job going slow than going fast.
