The only seal in the pump is on the drive shaft. If it leaked you would see it underneath the tractor, and this would affect lifting power not holding power. I can't imagine damaging the steel balls all at once, seems more logical problem is in one or both cylinders. Is there a return line going back into tractor from the cylinders? If not when the cylinders are damaged they will blow oil out the top when you raise them.
