Agreed. The "bat" stud can be connected directly to the battery, or through your ammeter. I'd connect it to the ammeter, where your regulator previously connected. The first pin of your two pin connector needs to be connected per Bob M's drawing - either through a lamp or with a diode. The second pin should be connected to your BAT lug. No additional wiring is needed to keep from running your battery down.
