Started working on the water pump assembly. Discovered that the packing nut was loose. Upon closer examination, I discovered that not only is all the packing gone, but the packing nut is stripped bare and has rattled around in there for God knows how long (how could somebody have run that poor old gal like that for what must have been quite a long time? The thing must have leaked like a seive!). So, has anybody ever encountered this before? Can a new packing nut be acquired / manufactured? The threads on the housing (where the packing nut inserts) are a little worn, but not gone, I think they could be cleaned up. I checked with the IH dealer and a remanufactured water pump is $466.00. I hadn't asked yet whether I could just get the packing nut. Anybody know? Thanks, Tony
