It could be that the throwout fingers are misadjusted. There
should be adjuster nuts on the clutch cover. Usually they are
staked so they don't turn by themselves. What it comes down to
is that the throwout fingers should be a certain distance from
the flywheel when the whole thing is assembled. If they are
adjusted too low, they may actually hit the clutch disc when the
throwout bearing (pedal depressed) pushes them forward. I've
had this happen before.
