IH 1066 PTO CLUTCH PROBLEMS

Hi again, Is there any way for me to tell if the PTO clutch discs on my IH 1066 are messed without cracking the tractor open? If I can't tell without opening the old girl up then what would I open up and how much trouble is the job going to be? PTO clutch disks don't seem to cost very much but I have a notion that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Any suggestions? Thx., Mitch.
