Whenever I buy a tractor that isn't running good I make a trip to the dealer for the following:
Cap, rotor, points,plug wires, plugs,oil filter and oil. None of these are expensive and is a good place to start. If your not familiar on how to tune up a tractor, buy yourself a manual and it will walk you through it. A carb kit or a carb may be needed, but try the simplist, and least expensive things first. Who knows when the last time these parts were change. Take your tractor serial number with you to the dealer and they will fix you up.
