It's not just yours ! They can be fixed though. After 50 years of use every joint on the linkage is worn. The roll pin is a good place to start. Most likely the rod that the lever fastens to has the hole for roll pin wallowed out. It can be welded up & redrilled or you may go to the next larger size roll pin. Every connection probably need to be drilled oversize and bushings installed, as well as building up the rods. By doing each connection the linkage can be made as good as new.
