986 with no 3pt?

I was looking at a 1086, but it has been sold. Now I am going to look at a 986, but the man who owns it says it has no 3pt hitch and came this way from the factory. Do you think that is a very common thing on these tractors? I have never seen one without a 3 pt hitch. It didn't just get taken off at one point did it? I haven't got a price yet, but it is supposed to be in good condition, 80% rubber front and rear, what should I expect to pay for something like this? I really don't need the 3pt for anything anyway. Thanks
