Hmmm interesting question. 300 is more related to an H not a M. M is closer to a 400. But thats not the real issue. Most 300 came with live pto wile M's and H's had nonlive Tranny run pto's. Some 300's did have nonlive pto's maybe for corn pickers or some thing like that. If the 300 in question has the lever on the underside of the clutch housing then it would be live pto I would guess. I would suspect that there is some thing wrong in the rear pto unit on the 300. Maybe the clutch bands are wore out or the planitary is bad. If thats the case then I would shop around for a used rear pto unit. Most can be had for about $150 to $200. Just one of the bands cost more than that from IH. Here is a photo of a live unit.
