I once thought that too, but those just allow the 3pt arms to extend a few inches to make hooking up easier. There's a cross-pin that prevents the 3pt arm from coming completely out of the socket, and the socket's a different size too.

You could get fast hitch on up through the 56 series, and maybe even on the early 66 series as well, but by then, they had long since stopped developing fast hitch equipment, and the tractors were a whole lot more powerful. You really needed to buy larger equipment to make use of the power.
