Usally you retorque after you get it good and hot then the gasket will settle in and you retorque it. I say after its cold but some here say retorque when its still warm. OK Now what about our vehicles do we buy them and take them in for retorque NO I dont think so Steel on steel or aluminnum is suposed to be no retorque but the ones that are cardboard on one side you do. If your Dads H went that long I would not worry I usally Change them alot more often than that. Hope this helps
