Chris, If you have the pump which fits between the magneto/distributor flange and the magneto/distributor, you have a JD pump. I believe it turns counterclockwise facing the input shaft (backwards for your tractor) and your piping connections would support this. As Gene said, the small port is the high pressure port. Running a hydraulic pump backwards subjects the case, including the shaft seal, to the high pressure. In addition to not being able to keep a seal in it, you also risk rupturing the case. I recommend obtaining the correct live hydraulic pump for your Farmall or add a belt driven PS pump. The IHC live pump will have too much output for power steering only unless you can use the surplus for your lift. An older (to get a v-belt sheave instead of poly groove)automotive power steering pump will likely work fine.
