Use a torch with a lazy flame (even a propane torch will do...). Lay the flywheel face down on a fireproof surface (NOT concrete!) and play the torch around the gear teeth for a minute or two. Then quickly give the gear a few licks with a hammer in several spots evenly around the perimeter (so as not get it cocked - and the gear should come off easily. Don't have a torch? The gear can also be beat off the flywheel using brute force. But heating it is a LOT easier. To install the new ring gear, stick it in a hot oven 400 deg + for 15 minutes or so. While the gear is warming up, flip the flywheel over and wipe off the machined surface where the ring gear fits. Then simply set the hot ring gear on the flywheel. It will drop right into place without any persuasion, then will quickly clamp itself to the flywheel as it cools down. You can also heat the ring gear with a torch but be careful not to get it too hot and softening it! 400 - 450 deg is all that's required.
