Keith, Here is a possible scenario for you. The mechanic removes the head from the engine, removes the injectors, and sends it to a machine shop to have the valves ground and be resurfaced. The machine shop removes the precups from the head to resurface and then doesn't put them back in. The mechanic installs the injectors and then puts the head on the tractor not realizing that the precups are not in the head. Result, very hard to start and excessive smoke. This is a rare situation but I have seen it happen. Check it out. Don
