Sounds like the free travel of the clutch may just need adjustment. Adjustment is done with nuts on the clutch actuating rod. Access is through a hole on the bottom rear of the torque tube (clutch housing) just in front of the transmission. May be come crud in there, but once you clean that out, you should see the adjusting nuts. Try adjusting that before you do anything else. I'm not sure on the specs for free travel, but about an inch movement of the clutch pedal before you feel resistance from the clutch springs should about do it. It could be that the clutch is worn or there is some problem with the clutch plate, but if you can adjust free play to get acceptable clutch action and the clutch does not slip, then use the tractor. If there is a problem with the clutch and you have to rework it, you should be able to do that for under $200 if you do the work yourself. Tractor must be split to do that, so if you don't have experience you might want to hire it done. Labor should not be too bad in a reputable shop for doing that on this little tractor.
