You have nailed your problem down to fuel related,and thats what I think it is also.Didi you clean the outlet in the tank where the dsediemnt bowl screws in at the bottom,and did you clean the screen in the bowl,if it had one.Also did you clean the filter on the carb? I have never had to pull a manifold to take off the carb,but have been temted a time oir two,those cracks you refer to,they shouldnt be at every bolt hole,what is it 2 or 4,but if you refering to what I think you are then yes they should be there.
