Jon: I have the same setup on all 3 of my tractors, rather than an on-off switch, I use a push button starter type switch. The part I like with push button switch, there is no danger of leaving it on, thus getting back feed. After starting tractor, all I need do is hit that push button to excite alternator. I always watch amp gauge as I do this, the reason being if battery was at full charge before starting, it will probably only show full charge for about 90 sec. or less. My Super A was the first I changed to alternator, a 6 volt alternator. Matching up diodes, lights, etc. for 6 volt would have been next to imposible. I did my 130, 12 volt basically to Bob Ms diagrams. Seemed like every few months something on this system failed. In all fairness to Bob's diagrams, I don't think I was ever able to buy the proper light. Sometimes tractor would shut down while other times not. Two years ago I decided if Super A on 6 volt alternator has 10 years in and working well, why not use the same system with 12 volt. 130 got changed to push button switch. When I did 140 last year, 12 volt alternator and push button switch from day one. I like this system, basically foolproof, because you must hit that switch to excite alternator, one tends to pay more attention to the system and how well it is working.
