560 Battery Questions

Greetings,

I need a new battery for my new (to me) 560D. The current battery was a 12V of undertermined origin. I can find no markings on it at all. According to the Op Manual, the 560 originally came with 2 6V batteries wired in series.

So would you folks recommend just inserting a new 12V or is there any advantage to 2 x 6V? What specs (CCA, anything else?) should I look for either in the 12V or 6V? Also, what gauge cables do you recommend for the battery connections?
