Farmall B backfire

I have a farmall b with a backfire pop through the exhaust. Held a piece of cloth over exhaust and when it pops does not pull the cloth toward exhaust. Seems best with mag adjust all the way towards engine. Acts like is not getting fuel. Has new Zenith carb. Blew air back through line towards sediment bowl and seemed to help now bad again. Got dirt in bottom of bowl after blowing through line. Timed mag initially according to specs. Is there gears inside the mag that should be in time too? This is a new mag I bought. Thanks
