Cylinder problem not sure what to do?

Got a IH sickel mower for my 400 the other day,they had it mounted to a H. It came with a single line cylinder and a breather port to the other end.
Can the cylinder work with this tractor or do I have to use a duel line cylinder? and how should I set it
Duel action or single action? Brothers got a John Deere A With a 8W mower and we are getting ready to head to the hay field in the next day or two.
