MDV worth?

I have been talking to a fella local that has a running MDV. It's not the best of shape but all and all nothing that I couldn't fix. He has been very unwilling to sell until now but I have no idea what to offer. What do you think would be a good price to start with? As far as I can tell, it is complete minus lights and front hood. It has only had one set of tires other than what it came with. He farmed tobacco with it until about 6 years ago and it shows it's use.
