I'm revamping my "new" S-M because it doesn't charge and all the wiring is shot. Also, I presume it doesn't charge because it has a 12V battery and I'm pretty sure it is a 6V system. In any case I'm fixin' to put a 12V Chevy alternator on it and so am switching it to negative ground. The wiring harness is on the bench as I speak to be duplicated in modern wire. Here are my thoughts so far, reverse the leads on the coil and add a resistor in the circuit. The lights and starter don't care about the polarity so all they need to do is have 12V bulbs, etc. My question is I'm not sure it was a 6V system or even if the battery was pos ground originally. Am making a lot of assumptions here until I get a manual. Help!
