Hello, I am a new owner of a "53 Super A and this is my first tractor. Today I had a bad experience with a cotter pin (pin too long - my bad) that shorted on the starter switch and damaged the starter. I guess the fuse does not catch any or all shorts? I am concerned at the fire risk from arching near the gas tank and also the lack of a "kill" switch or effective fuse to isolate the battery. My question to all you experienced tractor folks in the forum is are there ways to improve the "safety" of the battery system? (I now know to disconnect -ve before doing any elec. maint.) Any insulation tips etc.... If there is previous post on this please advise. Thanks in advance for your anticipated response.
