1970's International Remote Hydraulics

On the 1970 era International tractors-do you have to change anything to use a single acting hydraulic cylinder? I picked up a haybine with a single hose cylinder. Hooked the hose to one of the double outlets on my 664 and the other outlet leaked some. Switched the hose to the other outlet 7 it seemed to work better. Am I doing harm to the system? How about on an 826? Will mow some with it & the 656 too.
