I measure 1 ohm on a 1948 C. Perhaps someone has a more sensitive meter. It probably makes a difference. The parts manual lists the Delco-Remy part number as 814545. Maybe it is still available thru Case/IH? Does your switch have two resistor coils? One is the lighting dimmer, and the other changes the feild resistance of the generator when the lights are on. The field resistor coil in my C is a bare wire wound around a piece of mica, and the dimmer is the double coil with insulation directly on the wire. Still trying to figure out all of this generator stuff, and every tractor I look at seems to have a different combination of generator, voltage regulator, and dimmer switch. It's also very possible that a previous owner installed a new generator/VR, which could negate some of the function of a resistor switch. It's all very confusing. No wonder people install alternators.
