No offense meant here, but the way an M "should" behave when starting out in 5th is to give a healthy electrical shock through the seat and steering wheel along with a voice that comes on and says "Hey! Start me in a lower gear please!". Starting any manual transmission equipped anything in too high of a gear is hard on things. Start out in a lower gear and then use the clutch and gearshift lever to shift up once you get rolling. That's what they're there for.
