I find they start fine until you decide to take it to the local car show. Then you end up with 30 people standing around watching you fiddle with it. Ended up jumping it. Mine starts very well in cool weather by setting the throttle all the way closed, no choke and no priming cranks. I find if I have the throttle open at all it'll with race up, stall and never want to start again. Cold weather takes a little bit of choke. Hot weather with heavy air, still working on it. When it's hot I'll get mine to blow puffs of white smoke but won't fire. Mine is a gas only with a gas carb, if I'm remembering correctly the manifold heat is shut off.
