Cub Oil Leak

I just purchased a Cub (Model FCUB, Serial #45995). It appears to be leaking oil from the right side of the engine near a cast unit that has an oil gauge on it. It's round and has a top that looks like a rubber plug with a steel cap-- there is a hex head bolt on top. I just can't tell for sure where the oil is comming from. Can anyone help? Also, how do I check the coolant level and see if it has antifreeze? When I open the radiator cap I only see a metal bar across the top-- I can't see down into the radiator. Thank you-- Jim Murray
