I've had very good luck using a bucket of Carb cleaner solution from my local auto parts store. It came with a removable strainer basket to lay all of the small parts in so they can be submerged in the solution. As guckie as your carb sounds, you may have to leave the disassembled carb in the solution for a longer time than what you would normally. Use compressed air to clean out all the passages in the body of the carb after soaking. Then install a new kit in the carb as you reassemble the unit. The kit is re-usable as well, just keep the lid on tight to prevent evaporation.
